In a landmark gesture of alumni philanthropy, Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, co-founders of BrowserStack, have pledged ₹100 crore to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). The donation is directed toward significantly upgrading student housing infrastructure and enhancing the campus residential experience.

The duo, both 2006 graduates in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay, have emerged as global tech leaders through their cloud-based web and mobile testing platform, BrowserStack. Part of the contribution is made via BrowserStack’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, reflecting their ongoing commitment to advancing education and nurturing innovation in India.
Transforming Student Living: Hostel 6 and Project Evergreen
According to a statement issued by IIT Bombay, the funds will support two major initiatives:
- Reconstruction of Hostel 6 – the residence of both Arora and Aggarwal during their IITB days
- Project Evergreen – a comprehensive modernization plan for Hostels 7, 8, and 21
These efforts are part of IITB’s long-term goal of enhancing accommodation facilities to support over 14,000 students within a modern and inclusive campus ecosystem.
“Through this contribution, we’re not just rebuilding hostels but also investing in environments where the next generation of tech leaders can collaborate, ideate, and push boundaries,” said Ritesh Arora, CEO of BrowserStack.
Alumni Giving Back to Their Roots
Nakul Aggarwal, CTO of BrowserStack, emphasized the personal value of the project:
“My journey from Hostel 6 to building a global tech company showed me how powerful the right environment is for nurturing innovation. This contribution is personal for us. We’re simply giving back to the institution that showed us what’s possible when talent meets opportunity.”
IIT Bombay Welcomes the Generosity
Professor Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, praised the co-founders’ contribution, noting that the support would transform the quality of student life on campus.
“This generous gesture by Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora exemplifies the spirit of giving back that our alumni community upholds. We are immensely proud of their achievements and grateful for their unwavering commitment to IIT Bombay,” he said.
BrowserStack’s Broader Impact
Headquartered in Mumbai, BrowserStack powers over 2 million automated tests daily across 19 global data centers. The company’s global reputation and scale make this contribution not just a philanthropic milestone, but also a demonstration of the positive feedback loop between tech success and academic roots.
This donation reaffirms the growing trend of Indian tech entrepreneurs supporting educational institutions, laying the groundwork for future generations of engineers, developers, and innovators.
