Hyderabad, June 3, 2025 — In a groundbreaking moment for Indian athletics and social empowerment, Agasara Nandini, a student from Telangana’s Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS), has clinched the gold medal in heptathlon at the 26th Asian Athletics Championship 2025 held in Thailand.
Nandini’s win marks the first-ever gold medal by a Telangana Gurukul student on the Asian athletics stage. Her return to Hyderabad saw an outpouring of pride and emotion as senior officials, staff, and fellow students gave her a hero’s welcome at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

“Not the End, Just the Beginning” — Agasara Nandini Eyes Olympic Glory
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony at the TGSWREIS Head Office, Nandini declared her sights are now set on an Olympic gold.
“The Asian record I set remains untouched. But this is not the time to rest — it’s time to train harder, aim higher, and stand tall on the global podium,” she said.
She credited her success to the constant encouragement, training, and mentorship provided by the Gurukul education system. “I discovered my passion in Class VI, and from then on, my school backed me through every competition, from state to international,” she added.
Overcoming Injury, Powered by Support
Despite suffering an injury during the Asian Games season, Nandini pushed through with sheer determination. She emphasized that the emotional and logistical support provided by the TGSWREIS leadership was crucial to her performance.
Dr. V.S. Alugu Varsini, Secretary of the Society, hailed Nandini as a national inspiration.

“This is a historic moment for Telangana and India. We will continue to support Nandini with advanced training, world-class facilities, and Olympic preparation,” said Dr. Varsini.
Parents’ Pride and a State’s Dream
Nandini’s parents, Mr. Agasara Ellappa and Ms. Ayamma, were visibly overwhelmed with pride as their daughter was honored. Dr. Varsini praised their belief in Nandini’s dream and said it was families like theirs that form the foundation of India’s sporting future.
Transforming Lives Through Education and Sport
Dr. Varsini highlighted how Nandini’s victory underscores the transformative power of Telangana’s residential education model, especially for SC students and girls from underserved communities.
“Her journey proves what is possible with discipline, opportunity, and mentorship. She is now a beacon of hope for countless children in Telangana’s Gurukuls,” she said.

What’s Next?
The Telangana government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has made clear its intention to nurture world-class athletes. Nandini’s Olympic training will receive full financial and infrastructural backing from the State and TGSWREIS.
