Social media influencer and actor Apoorva Mukhija has finally opened up about the intense backlash she faced following the India’s Got Latent controversy. In a heartfelt interview with Yuvaa, Apoorva revealed the emotional toll the incident took on her, including receiving death threats, losing business deals, and staying silent under immense pressure.
Media Trial and Forced Silence

Reflecting on the chaos that followed the controversial remarks made during the show hosted by Samay Raina, Apoorva said, “We haven’t seen a media trial at this scale in the creator industry. We’ve seen it in Bollywood.”
She added, “I wanted to speak out immediately. I’m someone who talks about everything. But everyone around me said, ‘Don’t open your mouth—it’ll trigger another five-day news cycle.’ So the only option I had was to stay silent.”
Support from Rhea Chakraborty
One of the most striking moments in her interview was her mention of Rhea Chakraborty, who herself faced a massive media trial after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020. Apoorva revealed that she had a long video call with Rhea that helped her cope with the situation.
“Shoutout to Rhea Chakraborty. I even spoke to her on a video call for an hour. I longed to hear the words, ‘everything will be fine,’” she said. Apoorva credited her friends and a strong support system for helping her endure the period of online hostility and silence.
Professional Fallout: Lost Brand Deals
The backlash didn’t just impact her emotionally; it also hit her professionally. Apoorva revealed that multiple brands withdrew from collaborations. “When the year began, my team said, ‘This is your year.’ And it all vanished in one day. All the brands wrote back saying this isn’t the right time to associate with me.”
India’s Got Latent Controversy: A Recap
The controversy erupted in February when Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, and Ashish Chanchlani appeared on Samay Raina’s panel show, India’s Got Latent. Ranveer’s comments regarding parents and sex sparked a massive public outcry, leading to multiple FIRs against the panelists. Ranveer was temporarily banned from uploading content to his YouTube channel until the Supreme Court permitted him to resume in March 2025.
While Ranveer and Ashish faced their share of criticism, Apoorva became a lightning rod for hate, despite maintaining silence throughout the media storm.
Rhea Chakraborty’s Perspective on Media Trials
Rhea Chakraborty, who was accused of abetment in the Sushant Singh Rajput case and later cleared by the CBI in March 2025, had previously spoken about her trauma. On Deeptalk with Chetan Bhagat, she said, “My life was on display. I thought, yeh ho hi jaaye toh better hai — let me go to jail. So many people were after me that existence was not okay for me.”
What’s Next for Apoorva?
Despite the controversy, Apoorva was last seen in the Netflix film Nadaaniyan, starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor. However, due to the row, she was unable to promote the film publicly or on social media.
As the dust settles, Apoorva’s story stands as a stark reminder of the mental and emotional costs of public life in the age of viral outrage, and the importance of empathy—even in the digital world.
