The victim, Sanjay, was taking a break with his friend Chetan Pujamath near Vasanthapura Cross on Kanakapura Road when the accused, 31-year-old Prateek, arrived in his car. Prateek asked Sanjay to buy cigarettes from a roadside vendor while he remained seated in the vehicle.

When Sanjay refused, calling out the behavior as lazy and entitled, a heated argument ensued. Locals intervened and diffused the situation temporarily, but Prateek left angrily, parking his car nearby.

Later, as Sanjay and Chetan rode back to their office on a motorcycle, Prateek allegedly rammed his car into their bike from behind. Sanjay suffered a severe head injury from the impact and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Chetan also sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

Police Investigation and Current Status

The Subramanyapura police have registered a murder case against Prateek, who was reportedly intoxicated and returning from a party with his wife. CCTV footage capturing the incident has been obtained and is being examined as part of the investigation.

The police are actively investigating the motive and circumstances leading up to this tragic event. More details are expected to emerge in the coming days.

Implications and Public Reaction

This incident has raised concerns about road safety and violent crime in Bengaluru. Many are calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and quicker action against offenders to prevent similar tragedies. Public awareness campaigns highlighting the consequences of reckless behavior and intoxicated driving have gained renewed urgency.

Experts stress the importance of respecting others on the road and handling conflicts peacefully to avoid escalation. For detailed road safety statistics and tips, visit the World Health Organization’s Road Traffic Injuries Fact Sheet.

Conclusion

The tragic death of HN Sanjay serves as a grim reminder of how petty disputes can escalate with devastating consequences. It underscores the need for vigilance, responsible behavior, and enhanced legal measures to improve Bengaluru’s safety environment.
