After weeks of speculation, 2K Games has officially confirmed the pricing and pre-order details for Borderlands 4. Contrary to earlier rumors suggesting a steep $80 price tag, the highly anticipated looter shooter will launch at the new standard price of $70 for current-generation platforms.
Borderlands 4 Pricing and Editions Breakdown
2K Games announced on Monday that Borderlands 4 will be released in three different editions across PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and later on the Nintendo Switch 2:
- Standard Edition: $69.99 (Rs. 3,999 on PC / Rs. 4,999 on consoles in India)
- Deluxe Edition: $99.99 (Rs. 5,699 on PC / Rs. 7,499 on consoles in India)
- Super Deluxe Edition: $129.99 (Rs. 7,499 on PC / Rs. 9,799 on consoles in India)
The Standard Edition includes the base game. The Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions add multiple layers of post-launch content including:
- New vault hunters
- Story packs with new map regions
- Multiple DLC packs with bosses, missions, gear, and cosmetics
- Exclusive Vault Hunter skins, heads, bodies, and ECHO-4 cosmetics
Pre-orders are now live for all platforms via official stores such as Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, and Microsoft Store.
Randy Pitchford’s $80 Controversy
The pricing announcement comes weeks after Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford stirred controversy by suggesting that “a real fan” would pay $80 for Borderlands 4. His comments on X (formerly Twitter) drew criticism, prompting an apology where Pitchford clarified that pricing decisions are made by publishers like 2K, not developers like Gearbox.
Pitchford further addressed the matter during a Borderlands 4 panel in May, explaining that while development budgets have skyrocketed, publishers remain cautious about pricing due to market sensitivity. He revealed that Borderlands 4 has double the development budget of Borderlands 3, underlining the rising cost of AAA game production.
Rising AAA Game Prices: Industry Context
Borderlands 4 joins a growing list of AAA titles adopting the $70 price point, which became the norm with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launches. Recently, Microsoft’s The Outer Worlds 2 and Nintendo’s Mario Kart World pushed the bar even higher, introducing $80 pricing for some next-gen releases.
Despite Pitchford’s celebratory post on X claiming “no price increase,” it’s important to note that Borderlands 3 launched at $60, making Borderlands 4’s $70 price technically an increase compared to its predecessor.

Borderlands 4 will officially release on September 12, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will arrive later in the year.
