The Bharat Web3 Association (BWA) is set to organize a critical cybersecurity workshop in Bengaluru on May 8, 2025, focusing on identifying and addressing key vulnerabilities plaguing India’s Web3 and crypto ecosystems. As Web3 technologies expand rapidly across India, so too do the cybersecurity challenges surrounding crypto exchanges, wallets, and third-party integrations.

Top executives and security experts from major Web3 firms such as Coinbase, BitGo, CoinDCX, CoinSwitch, and Mudrex will participate in the event. Their goal: to equip Indian firms with the knowledge and tools to guard against rising threats like phishing, cloud misconfigurations, and digital asset theft.
Industry Leaders Unite for Cyber Defense
Sridhar Govardhan, CISO of CoinDCX, is expected to discuss recent Web3 breaches and the security lessons learned from them. Muralidharan SundaramurthyBarath Jawahar, Director of Engineering at BitGo, will explore issues around cloud security and third-party integrations.
Marc Krisjanous, a senior committee member from the CryptoCurrency Security Standard (CCSS), will also participate virtually, sharing insights from a certification program designed to audit Web3 platforms on their safety protocols.
Focus Areas: API Security, Custody of Digital Assets & Infrastructure
The BWA has outlined safe digital asset custody, API security, and infrastructure protection as top priorities during the workshop. BWA Chairperson Dilip Chenoy emphasized the importance of a united industry approach to protect the $3 trillion global crypto industry and India’s growing investor base.
In November 2024, a BWA report identified Bengaluru as India’s biggest Web3 hub, home to at least 97 firms. CoinSwitch also marked Bengaluru and Delhi as key trading centers in its own findings.
Background: Strengthening Web3 Security Post-WazirX Hack
This initiative builds on BWA’s January 2025 guidelines introduced after the WazirX hack that led to a loss exceeding $250 million. The guidelines push member companies to increase transparency around asset listings, trading rules, and to monitor for wash trading, pump-and-dump schemes, and insider manipulation.
With increased regulatory attention and user demand for safer digital platforms, the cybersecurity workshop aims to establish a baseline of security protocols for India’s growing Web3 sector.
Conclusion: Bengaluru Workshop Signals a Security-First Future for Indian Web3
The BWA’s May 8 event is a bold step toward fortifying India’s Web3 infrastructure. As Bengaluru strengthens its position as the country’s Web3 capital, such efforts will help drive investor confidence, boost global credibility, and safeguard the industry’s long-term future.
