Introduction

The high-profile federal trial of hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs reached its climax on Friday as defense attorney Marc Agnifilo delivered closing Diddy trial closing arguments, labeling the case a “fake trial” and accusing the U.S. government of criminalizing Combs’ private lifestyle. The 55-year-old artist faces multiple serious charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution.

Defense Slams Prosecution’s Case as ‘Exaggerated’

Sean 'Diddy' Combs trial recap: Defense wraps close saying government's case against Combs falls far short

For four hours, Agnifilo painted Combs as a victim of targeted prosecution. He dismissed the allegations as being based on consensual adult relationships within a “swingers lifestyle.” “The government targeted Sean Combs,” he told jurors, prompting immediate objections from the prosecution. The judge sustained the objection, but Agnifilo’s tone set the stage for a dramatic defense strategy.

Rebutting Testimonies from Cassie Ventura and ‘Jane’

The defense focused heavily on undermining the credibility of key witnesses, including Cassie Ventura, Combs’ ex-girlfriend who alleged physical abuse, and a second anonymous accuser referred to as “Jane.”

Agnifilo described Combs and Ventura’s 11-year relationship as a “modern love story,” adding, “She’s a woman who actually likes sex—good for her.” He framed their experiences, including the controversial “freak-offs”—sexual events allegedly arranged and recorded by Combs—as consensual encounters, not criminal enterprises Diddy trial closing arguments.

Surveillance Video and Hotel Incident

The defense also addressed a 2016 hotel surveillance video showing Combs attacking Ventura. Prosecutors argued it happened after she tried to flee a “freak-off.” Agnifilo, however, claimed the footage showed Ventura willingly gesturing Combs back to the room and insisted there was “nothing scary” inside, dismissing the encounter as a domestic dispute, not trafficking.

Prosecution Reasserts Abuse and Manipulation

Earlier this week, Christy Slavik of the prosecution delivered a five-hour closing argument detailing how Combs used drugs, violence, and coercion to manipulate women Diddy trial closing arguments. On Friday, prosecutor Maurene Comey delivered a sharp rebuttal to the defense, stating: “There is no separating the violence from the sex. They were trapped emotionally, physically and financially.”

Comey challenged the defense’s portrayal of Ventura’s lawsuit settlement as opportunism, asking the jury: “Why risk it all by perjuring herself at a federal trial?”

Racketeering and Alleged Co-Conspirators

One of the most serious charges against Combs is racketeering—accusations that he ran a criminal enterprise involving loyal employees. Agnifilo pushed back strongly, asserting there was a “gaping lack of evidence” and no real proof of a conspiracy.

Prosecutors had named former staffer Kristina Khorram as a key co-conspirator. Agnifilo described her as “helpful” and beloved by all, dismissing the idea that she facilitated or covered up any crimes.

What’s Next?

Combs, seen in court hugging his lawyer and flanked by his mother and daughters, could face life in prison if convicted on the most serious charges. Jury deliberations are expected to begin Monday after the judge issues final instructions.

Conclusion

This landmark case sits at the intersection of celebrity, power, and criminal justice. As the jury prepares to decide, the courtroom remains deeply divided over whether the case reflects justice or judicial overreach. Whatever the outcome, the Diddy trial has already left an indelible mark on the public conversation around sex trafficking, consent, and accountability in the entertainment industry.
