The Indian Premier League’s tagline, “Where talent meets opportunity,” has once again lived up to its reputation. While young breakout stars have dazzled, several seasoned players with massive price tags have disappointed fans and franchises alike. Here’s a look at some of the biggest hits and misses of IPL 2025.
❌ High Price, Low Return
Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants)
- Price tag: ₹27 crore
- Stats: 128 runs | Avg: 12.82 | SR: 99.22
Pant’s move to Lucknow Super Giants hasn’t paid off. A misfit middle-order composition and inconsistent form made it a forgettable season for the LSG skipper. His potential continues to be backed, but this year, the performance didn’t match the investment.
Venkatesh Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders)
- Price tag: ₹23.75 crore
- Stats: 142 runs | Avg: 20.29 | SR: 139.22
Iyer was expected to lead the KKR batting unit in Shreyas Iyer’s absence but failed to deliver as a crisis man or a consistent middle-order batter. KKR’s top-heavy reliance on him exposed their batting flaws.
Heinrich Klaasen (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
- Retention price: ₹23 crore
- Stats: 311 runs | Avg: 34.56 | SR: 153.96
Though the numbers seem solid, Klaasen didn’t deliver the expected impact. His ability to dominate spinners — a key asset last season — was conspicuously absent. Heinrich Klaasen’s full stats.
Rinku Singh (Kolkata Knight Riders)
- Retention price: ₹13 crore
- Stats: 197 runs | Avg: 32.83 | SR: 153.91
Rinku’s finishing skills weren’t enough this season, as KKR often struggled to give him enough time at the crease. Despite flashes of brilliance, he didn’t quite live up to his 2023 breakout reputation.
✅ Impactful Players & Bargain Heroes
Priyansh Arya (Punjab Kings)
- Price tag: ₹3.8 crore
- Stats: 417 runs | Avg: 34.75 | SR: 194.85
A fearless opener, Arya’s century against CSK at Mullanpur was one of the tournament’s highlights. Alongside Prabhsimran Singh, he’s formed one of the most explosive opening pairs this year. More about Priyansh Arya.
Digvesh Rathi (Lucknow Super Giants)
- Price tag: ₹30 lakh
- Stats: 12 wickets | Avg: 29.66 | Econ: 8.09
Rathi has emerged as LSG’s go-to spinner, surpassing Ravi Bishnoi in impact. His ability to bowl during all phases — Powerplay, middle overs, and the death — has added tactical flexibility to LSG’s bowling plans.
R Sai Kishore (Gujarat Titans)
- Price tag: ₹2 crore (RTM)
- Stats: 14 wickets | Avg: 17.64 | Econ: 8.37
Already known for his accuracy, Sai Kishore has introduced carrom balls into his repertoire, keeping batters guessing. He’s become GT’s key spinner alongside Rashid Khan. Gujarat Titans squad 2025.
Vipraj Nigam (Delhi Capitals)
- Price tag: ₹50 lakh
- Stats: 122 runs | SR: 179.41 | 9 wickets | Econ: 9.48
A genuine all-rounder for Delhi Capitals, Vipraj has impressed with late-innings cameos and consistent spells in the middle overs, forming a key spin combo with Kuldeep Yadav.
