Introduction
Anuradha Paswan, infamously known as the “looteri dulhan,” has been arrested after defrauding 25 grooms across India. Her carefully orchestrated fake marriages helped her flee with jewellery and cash worth lakhs. The Sawai Madhopur police finally caught her using a clever decoy groom operation, ending a years-long scam spree.
The Rise of the ‘Looteri Dulhan’
Operating under multiple identities, Anuradha Paswan posed as a poor, helpless woman eager to settle down. Her gang, well-versed in matrimonial scams, targeted unsuspecting grooms through fake matchmaking services. These ‘agents’ charged families lakhs of rupees to arrange the “ideal” bride.
Once married, Paswan would gain the family’s trust, behave as the perfect daughter-in-law, and then intoxicate food before vanishing with valuables, including jewellery, cash, and electronics.
Victim’s Story: Vishnu Sharma
One of her victims, Vishnu Sharma from Sawai Madhopur, revealed he took a loan to marry Anuradha. The wedding, conducted with Hindu rituals, cost him over Rs 2 lakh, including the broker’s fee. Just two weeks later, Anuradha disappeared, taking Rs 1.25 lakh in jewellery, Rs 30,000 in cash, and a phone worth Rs 30,000.
“I work hard running a handcart. I never thought she’d betray us like this,” said Mr. Sharma, still in disbelief.
The Police’s Decoy Groom Operation
After receiving the complaint, the Rajasthan Police launched a sting operation. A constable was deployed as a decoy groom and engaged with the same gang that had lured past victims. During the process, fake documents and bogus marriage agreements were uncovered.
Eventually, the police trapped Paswan into another staged wedding in Bhopal, where she was arrested.
Conclusion
This sensational case of the looteri dulhan reveals how easily trust can be manipulated when proper background checks and verification are overlooked. With police stepping up operations against such matrimonial frauds, it serves as a cautionary tale for families across India. Always verify marriage credentials and avoid under-the-table matchmaking deals.
