London, UK – Republic of Ireland international Megan Campbell has officially entered the record books by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest ever throw-in by a female footballer, launching the ball a staggering 37.55 metres.
The 30-year-old footballer, who plays for the London City Lionesses, set the record at her club’s training ground in Kent. With a throw over two metres longer than the previous record of 35m, Campbell’s feat was also 10 metres longer than the average length of a blue whale.
“Anything is Achievable,” Says Campbell
Speaking to Guinness World Records after the achievement, Campbell said: “To have a certificate that says I can throw the ball really far is quite cool. I’m honoured.” She added, “If you have a goal and the mindset to achieve it, anything is possible.”
She also shared that she developed her powerful throw while playing for a boys’ team in her early teens, often surprising her teammates with her range. Today, her long throw is a known weapon in her professional arsenal. “It’s no secret I have a long throw,” she joked.

A Career Built on Strength and Determination
Campbell’s football journey has seen her represent Manchester City, Liverpool, and Everton, earning over 50 caps for the Republic of Ireland. Her experience and physical skill have made her a standout figure in women’s football.
She recently helped London City Lionesses achieve a historic promotion to the Women’s Super League, making them the first fully independent women’s club to join England’s top flight.
“I think female football is on an upward trajectory. From when I was a kid to now, the game has changed dramatically. I don’t think there’s a ceiling anymore,” she said.
Inspiring the Next Generation
As the first woman to hold this specific throw-in world record, Campbell hopes to inspire others. “You’ve got to be someone that people can look up to and want to achieve things from, so of course I want someone to go on and beat my record,” she said.
The BBC reported that her achievement is more than just a personal milestone—it reflects the growing momentum and visibility of women’s football around the world.
