Himanta Biswa Sarma Accuses Gaurav Gogoi and Wife of Anti-India Activities

Guwahati, May 28, 2025 — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched serious allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and his British wife, claiming they are involved in anti-India activities. This political storm comes shortly after Gogoi’s appointment as Assam Congress president.

Sarma stated he possesses concrete evidence but will release it publicly only on September 10 after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) completes its inquiry. The alleged activities relate to intelligence gathering and links to Pakistan-based agencies.

According to the Chief Minister, Gogoi’s wife has been collecting sensitive intelligence for a climate change lobby and has alleged ties with the Pakistan Army and the Ministry of Interior, Pakistan.

“On September 10, I will show how they are connected to Pakistan and how this is being masked under climate activism,” said Sarma.

Gaurav Gogoi has responded that his 2013 visit to Pakistan was linked to his wife’s then-employment with a climate project. India-Pakistan tensions have made the claim particularly controversial.

Congress Rebuts: Political Vendetta?

The Indian National Congress dismissed the accusations as an election ploy. Gogoi challenged Sarma on X (formerly Twitter), asking whether he would resign if the claims are proven false.

“This is nothing but a desperate attempt ahead of the 2026 Assam elections. The CM is afraid of losing,” Congress leaders said in a press release.

Further stoking controversy, Sarma attacked the Gogoi family’s nationality. He claimed that Gogoi’s wife and children hold British passports, questioning their loyalty to India. “How can someone be called a nationalist if three out of four family members aren’t Indian citizens?” he said.

What Happens Next?

Sarma concluded that the Congress party would regret promoting Gogoi, and that Rahul Gandhi would have to answer for his judgment. All eyes now turn to the September 10 disclosure, where Sarma claims he will present full documentation supporting his accusations.
