Aamir also revealed details about his character. “My character, Nikumbh, in Taare Zameen Par was a very sensitive person. In this film my character’s name is Gulshan but his personality is exactly opposite to Nikumbh. He is very rude, politically incorrect and he insults everybody. He fights with his wife, mother. He is a basketball coach and he beats up his senior coach. He is a person with a lot of internal problems,” he said.
“The story is about how he changes. How the ten people, some of whom have down syndrome, autism, different abilities teach him what it is to be a good human being. Originally this is a Spanish film and we have made an Indian version of that,” Aamir added. Sitaare Zameen Par is the Hindi adaptation of Javier Fresser’s 2018 Spanish sports comedy Campeones.
The film is directed by RS Prasanna, who also directed Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), a barrier-breaking blockbuster. He also produced and directed On A Quest, a biopic on Swami Chinmayananda Saraswathi, the teacher who Inspired the formation of the Chinmaya Mission. The screenplay is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma.
