Bologna ended a 51-year wait for silverware by winning the 2025 Coppa Italia with a dramatic 1-0 victory over AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night.
Swiss winger Dan Ndoye scored the only goal in the 53rd minute, lashing home from inside the box after a scramble created by Riccardo Orsolini‘s run, sealing a historic Italian Cup triumph—Bologna’s first major trophy since 1974.
🏆 Glory After 51 Years
Bologna’s last Coppa Italia win came in 1974, and the club hadn’t appeared in a major final since then. Under new coach Vincenzo Italiano, they defied expectations to lift the trophy and claim the third Coppa Italia in their history.
“It’s an incredible feeling. These players have made history,” said an emotional Italiano, celebrating his first major coaching title after three previous final defeats with Fiorentina.
Bologna fans erupted in joy, some crying in disbelief, as their team completed a fairytale campaign. Players hoisted Italiano into the air in front of a jubilant curva at the Olimpico.

Bologna looked sharp early, with Santiago Castro nearly scoring in the 8th minute. AC Milan had a golden chance shortly after, but Luka Jovic fired directly at Bologna keeper Lukasz Skorupski after a defensive miscue.
The breakthrough came just after halftime. Ndoye took advantage of confusion in the Milan box, twisting past a defender and smashing in the winning goal past Mike Maignan.
Milan, despite their reputation for comebacks, failed to generate a serious threat in the second half. Substitute Santiago Gimenez squandered their best opportunity in the 71st minute.

It was another bitter blow for Milan in a forgettable campaign. With rivals Inter Milan pushing for both the Serie A title and Champions League glory, Milan now face an uphill battle to even qualify for Europe.
They sit eighth in the Serie A table, three points behind Roma, who occupy the Conference League spot. A make-or-break clash against Roma looms this weekend.
