31-Year-Old Man Tested Positive at Peshawar Airport
The Public Health Section of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Health Department has confirmed the province’s eighth case of mpox. According to health officials, the case involves a 31-year-old male passenger who was intercepted during screening at Peshawar Airport while preparing to depart for Dubai.
Lab Tests Confirm Mpox Virus
Following suspicion of infection, samples from the patient were sent to the Public Health Reference Laboratory at Khyber Medical University (KMU). The test results confirmed the presence of the mpox virus. The individual had arrived in Pakistan on April 16, just days before his diagnosis.
Isolation and Contact Tracing Underway
In response to the confirmed case, the K-P Health Department has initiated surveillance and contact tracing through the District Health Officer (DHO) Khyber. The patient has been transferred to the isolation ward at Police Services Hospital, Peshawar, to prevent further spread.
Public Health Advisory
The K-P Health Department is closely monitoring the situation and has urged the public to remain vigilant. Officials have asked citizens to report any suspected symptoms promptly, including skin rashes, fever, swollen lymph nodes, or body aches.
No Local Transmission Reported
Health authorities clarified that the previous mpox case reported in March — involving a woman from Dogra in Khyber district — was not considered a local transmission case, suggesting that containment efforts remain effective.
