Introduction: Prithvi Shaw Ends Long Association With Mumbai

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has officially ended his association with Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team after receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). This decision marks a significant shift in Shaw’s domestic cricket career as he looks to restart under a new state banner. Though his new team is yet to be disclosed, the move is aimed at enhancing his growth and development as a professional cricketer.

In an official statement, MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed that Shaw had formally requested the NOC and that the association approved it after due consideration. “Prithvi Shaw has been an exceptional talent and has contributed significantly to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the very best,” the MCA stated. The NOC opens the door for Shaw to represent another state in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025 season.

Shaw’s Statement: Grateful But Ready to Move On

In his letter to the MCA, the 25-year-old Shaw expressed gratitude for the support and exposure he received since making his debut in 2017. He wrote, “It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am deeply grateful for the exposure and experience I have gained here.”

He further stated that the move is meant to provide a fresh opportunity and believes it will contribute positively to his cricketing journey. “At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association,” Shaw wrote.

Disciplinary Shadows Over Shaw’s Career

While Shaw has enjoyed success in white-ball cricket, his career has often been overshadowed by disciplinary issues and fitness concerns. He was dropped from the Mumbai red-ball squad last year for these reasons and missed a majority of the Ranji season. He did make a return during the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, helping Mumbai clinch the title against Madhya Pradesh.

Shaw’s exit also comes after strong words from Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer, who hinted at concerns about Shaw’s professionalism. “He needs to get his work ethics right, and if he does that, the sky is the limit,” Iyer told reporters in Bengaluru. “We can’t babysit anyone. Every professional should know what’s required,” he added.

Where Will Shaw Go Next?

While there has been no official confirmation on which state Shaw will represent next, speculation points toward teams that could benefit from an experienced top-order batter. The move might offer Shaw a cleaner slate and fewer distractions, helping him return to national contention, especially in red-ball formats where he has been overlooked lately.

Shaw’s Career Snapshot

  • Test Matches: 5 appearances
  • ODIs: 6 appearances
  • First-Class Debut: 2017 for Mumbai
  • Last White-Ball Appearance: Syed Mushtaq Ali Final 2024-25

Conclusion: A New Chapter for Prithvi Shaw

As Prithvi Shaw prepares to don a new jersey in domestic cricket, all eyes will be on how this change impacts his cricketing trajectory. With immense talent but equally pressing questions around discipline and fitness, this shift could either revive or further derail a once-promising international career.
